Know HIM? Newark Police Seek ID For Masked Man In Attempted Armored Carjacking

Police in Newark are seeking the public’s help identifying a man they say attempted to carjack an armored vehicle Thursday afternoon.

The suspect is described as a black man between 5 feet 7 and 5 feet 10 inches tall. He has a medium build and was dressed in all black clothing, a blue baseball cap and a surgical mask, police said.

A man, pictured above, entered a Garda armored car occupied by a security guard at Wells Fargo on South Orange Avenue around 1:30 p.m., Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose said.

The man hit two adjacent vehicles and fled the scene, running southbound on Stuyvesant Avenue toward Rockland Terrace, Ambrose said.

The car guard sustained a minor hand injury and was treated at University Hospital, authorities said.
